Texas residents in Original Medicare could receive a one-time $90 premium rebate this month, but Medicare Advantage enrollees do not qualify.
President Donald Trump announced the payment Friday, October 2. About 20.8 million beneficiaries nationwide qualify, according to the CMS FAQ dated October 3. The newer guidance specifies when to expect the money and whom to call with questions.
The rebate covers eligible Original Medicare Part B beneficiaries living in the United States. The administration excludes Medicare Advantage enrollees, people whose premiums Medicaid pays and beneficiaries who pay an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount, or IRMAA.
Medicaid premium assistance helps eligible people with limited income and resources pay Medicare costs through state-run Medicare Savings Programs, Medicare explains.
IRMAA is an additional premium that higher-income beneficiaries pay for Part B and Medicare prescription drug coverage, Social Security explains. The agency generally uses earlier federal tax-return information to determine that surcharge and sends affected beneficiaries a notice.
If you are unsure who pays your premium or whether an income surcharge applies, confirm your eligibility with Medicare before counting on the rebate.
Most eligible beneficiaries should receive a $90 direct deposit on or around October 8 through the Social Security Administration, CMS says. That is an approximate date, not a guarantee for every recipient.
People without direct deposit will receive a Treasury paper check later in October at the mailing address they have registered with Medicare, according to CMS.
The CMS FAQ does not instruct beneficiaries to submit an application or meet a registration deadline. It describes payments through existing direct-deposit and mailing records.
For eligibility questions, call 1-800-MEDICARE, or 1-800-633-4227.
For payment status, call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 beginning October 15, 2026, CMS directs. The payment-status inquiry date comes one week after the approximate direct-deposit date; paper checks may arrive later in the month.
This is one payment, not a recurring monthly benefit.
Part B helps cover doctor visits, outpatient hospital care, durable medical equipment and certain home health services. Its standard premium is $202.90 a month in 2026, according to CMS. The $90 rebate equals about 44% of one standard monthly premium.
The money will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, which Congress supplied with $2 billion, according to the White House fact sheet. That funding figure does not establish the exact amount the government will ultimately distribute in rebates.
Keep your Medicare number and personal information private when someone contacts you unexpectedly. Medicare warns that it never makes uninvited calls asking for personal or private information.
If a caller asks for money or information, or threatens to cancel your health benefits, hang up and call 1-800-MEDICARE, the agency advises. Use the official numbers above to resolve rebate questions.
