PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Heide-Trask High School was placed on a precautionary shelter-in-place Thursday afternoon following a high-speed police chase in the area, according to school officials.
In a statement sent to families on Nov. 5, school officials confirmed that dismissal for the school was delayed during the incident, but emphasized that staff and students were never in danger.
The Pender County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly and investigated before giving the all-clear for the shelter-in-place to be lifted, school officials said.
“We appreciate the quick response from law enforcement and the cooperation of our staff and students in following safety procedures. We also appreciate your patience while waiting for the delayed dismissal,” the statement said. “Our number one concern is always safety first.”
WECT has reached out to law enforcement for more details about the high-speed chase that prompted the shelter-in-place.
